Pete the Meat has been in business since 1976 and the firm was given renewed impetus due to a grant from the council-backed initiative. The sausage machine improved productivity and Pete Lawton is really grateful for the lift. Newsletter printing in Redditch may be used to record the successes of different projects. Lawton told the Redditch Standard:
“A customer told us there were grants available for new equipment – I had no idea – and we took it from there. We had to jump through a couple of hoops to get the money – we paid for the machine and then could claim about half back – but it was definitely worth it.”
The machine has the capacity to make 100 pounds of sausages in one hour. This is ten times as fast as the rate of production sustained by the previous system. Four people are employed by the company and they make a variety of sausages. Some of the products are spicy, while others contain wild mushrooms.
Bill Hartnett leads Redditch Borough Council and said that the area is known for its record of innovation. Councillor Hartnett explained that the sausage machine was a positive example of local entrepreneurship. Businesses may be able to receive assistance through the scheme if they are based in Wyre Forest, Bromsgrove or Redditch.
