St. Albans Museum solo show for Potters Bar artist-in-residence

An exhibition by a graduate from the renowned Slade School of Art has gone on display at St. Albans Museum. Katie Aggett, a Hatfield artist, has won awards for her work combining the disciplines of drawing and sculpture. She is also the artist-in-residence at a school near Potters Bar.

Aggett, who is 26, is a Hatfield resident currently working as an artist at Queenswood School. Her exhibition, entitled "Written in the Corners of Streets", focuses on themes of urban spaces and architecture. It runs until Sunday, 7th September at the University of Hatfield (UH) Galleries, which are located inside St. Albans Museum.

The solo show was offered to Aggett as part of the prize when she won an open exhibition for East Anglian artists, entitled "Eastern Approaches", organised by the University of Hatfield. Previously, Aggett had won the student award in the prestigious Jerwood Drawing Prize.

The UH Galleries’ artistic director, Matthew Shaul, said that he was "delighted" to work with a talented sculptor like Aggett. In return, Aggett said that working with UH Galleries had been "wonderful" and that she was pleased to be associated with the Hertfordshire art scene, which she believes is often overlooked due to its proximity to London. Local artists who want to make sure they are noticed could try strategies such as postcard printing in Potters Bar, in order to raise their profiles.
