Safer Streets project launched in Potters Bar

A dedicated community team recently visited homes around the Potters Bar area to give advice to residents on how to stay safe.

The Safer Streets Team was put together by Hertsmere Community Safety Partnership and is made up of police officers, fire and rescue services, neighbourhood watch members and local community groups. The team visited more than 70 homes to offer residents wise words in the hope of making the area a safer place to live.

Speaking about the visits, Councillor Peter Knell, who joined the team, said:

“Safer Streets is a multi-agency project which aims to bring advice, information and support to your door. It targets the most vulnerable people in the community, and is especially useful for the elderly, who perhaps do not have access to the internet."

Teams like this operate throughout the UK and often raise awareness of the issues they deal with by working with printing companies in Potters Bar to produce Flyers and Posters.

The Safer Streets Team gives residents advice on a number of topics, such as fitting smoke alarms to prevent fires in the home and how to avoid falling victim to burglary. The team can also carry out free safety checks, during which it looks at locks, windows and doors to maximise security.
