Pupils in Potters Bar benefit from donated equipment

Pupils at a primary school in Potters Bar have gained from equipment donated by supermarket, Sainsbury’s.

The Sainsbury’s Active Kids (SAK) initiative has seen children who attend St Giles’ Primary School receive equipment to make their playtime more interesting. The scheme works by getting supermarket customers to give a contribution to the fund. Various promotional items from Potters Bar can help a range of businesses. The SAK process operates on a voucher basis.

The children were presented with the playground equipment at lunchtime. Tennis rackets and soft balls were distributed to them by supermarket staff. Susan Ridge, the head at St Giles’, commented:

“Customers at Sainsbury’s Potters Bar have been really supportive this year and it’s great that we’ve received so many vouchers. The scheme has helped us teach the benefits of a healthier more active lifestyle to hundreds of children over the past few years and we’re really looking forward to using the new equipment.”

The SAK venture was established back in 2005. However, it has been modified to take into account more social issues. In 2014, the scheme was altered to include a culinary element. This shift was made to facilitate the healthy eating agenda.

Nearly 48,000 organisations have signed up to SAK. Experiences and equipment worth more than £170 million have flowed through the initiative since its beginnings.
