The Royal Veterinary College (RVC) Open Farm Sunday is due to be held in Potters Bar this summer.
This is a chance for people of all ages to visit and experience what it is like to be a farmer on a 220-hectare dairy farm. There will be opportunities to stop and listen to bird song, take in the scenery and absorb the smells and distinctive atmosphere of a working farmyard.
Visitors can discover the lifecycle of the 210-strong Holstein Friesian dairy herd, from calving through to milking. The problems and practices of water and land management are to be explored and explained. One particular highlight will be the insight given into managing a flock of 300 mixed pedigree sheep, together with displays of shearing.
There will also be a sampling of the farm's produce, including poultry and lamb. The veterinary trainees will act as guides for visitors, with the volunteer staff taking time to discuss their roles at the college. These open access occasions have proved popular in the past.
Entry is free and the event is to be COVID-compliant. When advertising events like this within a community, poster printing can be particularly useful, especially when sponsors for the event are sought.
The RVC Open Farm Sunday will take place on Sunday, 13th June at Boltons Park Farm, Potters Bar.
