This Sunday, a Potters Bar resident will run the London Marathon in support of the National Brain Appeal for the third time, a charity which is extremely close to her heart.
Melody Mclaren, aged 61 years, also completed the marathon in 2010 and 2015 in an effort to raise funds for the charity, which in turn supports the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN). To raise awareness of and funds for the work of charities such as this, flyer printing services are often used.
The NHNN is the country’s leading hospital for treating various types of brain, spinal and nervous system-related diseases. Over the past decade, the NHNN has provided medical support to Melody’s husband Ian, aged 75, who suffers with Parkinson’s disease. After undergoing deep brain stimulation at the hospital in 2009, Ian’s mobility was significantly improved, enabling the couple to continue with activities they both enjoy including travelling and creating jazz music.
Melody has been training hard over the past months in preparation for the marathon. Twice each week she has been able to train outdoors whilst carers support her husband in her absence and she has also been using a treadmill in the house.
To date, Melody has raised over £1,800 for this cause and hopes to increase this to £2,000.
