70s soul/disco band, The Real Thing, is due to play a return gig in Potters Bar towards the end of September.
These pioneers of the genre formed in Liverpool in January 1972. The original trio consisted of Dave Smith, Chris Amoo, and Ray Lake but the band has also included Eddy Amoo, Kenny Davies, and Edward Ankrah.
They were quickly signed by A&R man Tony Hall, immediately appearing on and winning TV's Opportunity Knocks. A debut single, Vicious Circle, was subsequently released on the EMI label.
The Real Thing worked with David Essex and supported him, on his American Lamplight tour. Hits such as You To Me Are Everything, Can You Feel The Force, Can't Get By Without You, and later the cult Children Of The Ghetto followed.
They became regulars on Top of the Pops with the track Let's Go Disco featuring in a Joan Collins movie. However, the 80s witnessed less chart success.
Today the band is still touring and recording, releasing Live At The Liverpool Philharmonic in 2013 on CD and DVD. Chris and Dave now perform supported by their five-piece band.
There is a standard ticket price of £28.00. Stationery printers can be a valuable resource when it comes to organising a stage show or musical event.
The Real Thing's gig has a starting time of 7.30pm on Saturday 24th September at Wyllyotts Theatre, Potters Bar.
