New road safety measures in Potters Bar region

A series of new road safety measures have been agreed this month in the Potters Bar region to help make the trip to school much safer for local pupils following a campaign to get the measures put in place.

Walksafe N2, a community group that was formed last year to tackle the issue of safer commutes for schoolchildren, celebrated a victory recently as local officials approved almost all of its improvement requests.

The group has drummed up a significant amount of support from local councillors and residents alike. With the help of a petition that contained in excess of a thousand signatures, the local council has granted a review into the suggestions of how the walk to Martin Primary School in the East Finchley region could be made safer. These suggestions include adding a new zebra crossing and limiting speed in the area to 20 mph.

Catrin Dillon is the Chair of Governors at the school. She commented on how pleased she was at the outcome of the activity, saying:

“I'm absolutely delighted and relieved on behalf of the children of the school. This has been of great concern for a lot of people. It has always been an issue, and there have been so many near misses and actual incidents.”

Walk-to-school schemes are in place across the UK and there is often a need to publicise these to ensure that local families make the most of them. Eye-catching Banners can be hung on school premises to advertise local schemes, and these can easily be produced using banner printing. Potters Bar and East Finchley could soon be a safer place to walk thanks to similar measures.
