New plan to deal with waste in Potters Bar

Potters Bar residents could soon see a change in the way their household waste is dealt with – thanks to a proposed shakeup of how several North London boroughs are currently dealing with this waste.

Six councils in north London, including Barnet, are due to review the way that they deal with waste collected in Potters Bar and other nearby regions. Barnet joins Haringey, Hackney, Camden, Enfield, Waltham Forest and Islington in being one of the boroughs that had their initial Plans for waste management rejected by inspectors in the summer. The rejection was largely based on the fact that North London boroughs were using landfills in other local authorities to dispose of their waste.

The councils are now planning to work on a new joint proposal after the festive period. A spokesperson for the North London Waste Plan said:

“We have listened to the decision of the planning inspector and while we are disappointed with his decision, we believe the most appropriate way forward is to not adopt the current plan and start work on a new one as early as possible in the new year. We need to deal with more of our own rubbish and we’re determined to produce a plan that meets the needs of north London and identifies how the waste management facilities we need can be provided.”

Waste collection and waste management facilities are often a major concern in the day to day lives of local people, and information on things like dustbin collections and recycling are often communicated via leaflets that have been produced using flyer printing. Potters Bar residents are sure to be keeping an eye out for any updates to the management of their household waste over the coming months.
