Job shop opens at local college

Students at a college in the Potters Bar area are being given a helping hand when it comes to finding work after their studies finish – in the form of a new job shop that offers practical advice on employment.

The new job shop opened recently at Barnet and Southgate College and this new initiative aims to help students at the college prepare their CVs, find jobs to apply to and to prepare for any potential interviews thanks to professional advice that will be available at the job shop. This is a joint initiative between the college and Reed NCFE, an organisation that is dedicated to helping colleges in getting their students into work.

Principle David Byrne from Barnet and Southgate College spoke about the new venture, saying:

“Being able to help our students successfully compete in a ruthless job market is one of our key objectives as a college. The partnership with Reed NCFE does just this by giving students relevant careers advice and training, alongside their studies, which helps them find the right job at the end of their course. At the same time, the job shop will provide fully trained, potential employees to local business and services, which reduces recruitment costs and gives our students a head start in their working lives.”

Job clubs and job shops often offer their visitors services such as CV and business card printing, and Potters Bar students should be able to find similar services alongside the advice available at the job shop at Barnet and Southgate College.
