The eclectic English folk group, The Unthanks, are on tour and will arrive in Northampton to play a gig towards the end of April.
They consist of Geordie sisters Becky and Rachel Unthank with Niopha Keegan on violin and Adrian McNally on piano. In total there is an 11 piece band with a string quartet, accompanied by brass, bass and percussion sections. Their style of folk music has a wide selection of influences including Miles Davis and om Waits.
The Unthanks have garnered much critical success, with 'Mount The Air' winning the 2015 'BBC Folk Album Of The Year Award'. They were also given 'Album Of The Year' accolades from both The Guardian and MOJO Magazine as well as a Mercury Prize nomination.
This tour showcases their latest album, 'Sorrows Away', but they will be performing favourite tracks notably 'The King Of Rome', Starless and Magpie. Whilst the previous seven years were busy, with 14 releases, the new record is not project orientated.
The Guardian described their music as 'Haunting, original and magnificent' and The NME commenting that 'Rachel and Becky's voices are one of the true wonders of 21st-century music'.
