This is despite the fact that unemployment figures for the UK as a whole have risen very slightly on the previous month's numbers. In total in Northampton, 122 fewer people claimed Jobseeker's Allowance in April than in March 2013.
The drop in local unemployment figures points to a rise in the number of individuals finding work in the town, which comes as a boost as the economic climate continues to be challenging for many people and companies.
Jobseeker's Allowance is given to people seeking employment, providing they meet certain criteria; they must prove, for example, that they are looking for jobs and are not purposefully avoiding work. Job centres across the country use local printing companies to produce Flyers and Posters to advertise jobs and training using traditional digital printing.
Northampton's employment figures are reviewed each month and compared with national figures. There is hope from the community that the positive trend will continue. Mark Hoban, who is the employment minister, commented on this, saying:
“It’s a credit to businesses that the private sector is employing one and a quarter million more people than when this Government took office, helping us compete in the global race. Today’s figures show that, against a difficult economic backdrop, we’re helping people to move off benefits and into work.”
