Faith, a brown toy poodle, escaped from Belinda Collis Hill during a walk through Grange Park last month, and the subsequent search involved both tracking dogs and local volunteers.
However, it was teen Callum Calver who succeeded in finding and returning the dog, having come across it close to the park at Rickyard Walk, where she was fleeing from a cyclist that also recognised the pooch.
Afterwards, Mrs Collis Hill, who lives at High Street Roade in the town, told a reporter from the Northampton Chronicle that, in the absence of children, her dogs are very important to her. She went on to thank everyone who had participated in the search, which included tracker dogs provided by a woman living in Kent, before adding:
“But Callum was the real hero and, being a dog-owner himself he said he knew how I must have felt. Whatever people say about teenagers, he was a lovely young man and a real gentleman.”
