Sharps coming to Northampton

It has been confirmed that major home office and fitted bedroom furniture provider, Sharps will be moving into a vacant unit situated in the centre of Northampton.

Northampton Council has given planning approval for this move, enabling the retailer – which already has numerous outlets across the UK – to begin preparations. It is set to take up the space that used to be home to Bling Bling, at the corner of Market Square and Abington Street, and will be the second Sharps within Northampton – with the existing store located at the Riverside Retail Park.

Bling Bling shut up shop during the summer, so that it could reopen within a unit on the other side of the road, and the space has lain vacant since then. Planning documents for the unoccupied unit were subsequently submitted to the council by Sharps, with the company seeking to secure the permission needed to put up a new sign at the front of the unit.

A month after the Plans for the new store were delivered to the council, Sun Capital Partners – a firm that provides private equity – acquired Sharps and removed it from administration. Now it is set for further expansion in Northampton.

Once the store opens, it should mean jobs for local people and could also be beneficial to existing businesses, such as those that provide Brochures, as Sharps will need to advertise.
