The garden was first opened to the public in the town during the 1970s, with the aim of providing for those who suffer from visual impairment. In the decades since then, however, the dedication of this group has not been enough to prevent it from becoming overgrown.
Friends of Abington Park volunteers visit the garden on a regular basis in an attempt to maintain it, but now the group has decided that a comprehensive renovation is the best way forward for it.
A group spokesman stated that council member Peter Hackett and park ranger Jason Toyne would be working alongside them to complete this project. He also said that work had already begun, with the restoration of the old water feature.
The plan is to carry out the renovation bit by bit, with the spokesman telling the Northampton Chronicle:
“The paths within the garden will be resurfaced and improved. Planting will be designed to create an area that will be of interest all the year round, with specially selected plants to create sensory interest.”
