The £8.5m facility is situated across from the railway station at Black Lion Hill, and when finished it will contain conference space, more than 40 office units, and a café. In addition, those businesses based there will be able to get specialist help from people at the university, as well as access to cutting-edge products like digital Business Cards, supplied by Print shops in Northampton.
The ceremony to mark the end of initial-stage work was held on 3rd September, with attendees including Deborah Mattock, the university’s marketing and human resources director.
She told the Northampton Chronicle:
“We are expecting the building to create up to 300 new jobs. And yes, of course, we want to see our graduates moving into it and keeping those skills in Northampton.”
She added that the finished centre would be specifically tailored to the needs of new start-up companies, and it is located within the town’s Enterprise Zone.
The centre is being constructed by Kier, with the company having won the contract last October. The Plans for it received the unanimous backing of the planning committee put together by Northampton Borough Council.
