Northampton to start new year with musical

The musical stage comedy "Waitress" is due to arrive in Northampton in mid-January for a run of shows.

Based on Adrienne Shelly's film of the same name, it tells the tale of Jenna, who is a waitress and a first-class baker of pies. She is eager to escape both her loveless marriage and a small-town environment in order to start life over. The arrival of a new doctor and a baking competition in a neighbouring county appear to provide just such an opportunity, but it remains to be seen whether Jenna will have the courage and strength to reorganise her life.

It stars Chelsea Halfpenny (from Emmerdale) as Jenna, and Matt Willis (from the band Busted) as Dr. Pomatter.

An entirely female team of creatives is behind the show. All original lyrics and music are the work of songwriter and six-time Grammy nominee Sara Bareilles. The script was produced by Jessie Nelson and the stage direction is by Tony Award-winning director Diane Paulus.

The Chicago Tribune described the play as “an empowering musical”.

Ticket prices start at £28.50 inclusive of booking fees. Brochure printing can be an effective way of publicising a forthcoming stage show or theatrical event.

The musical comedy will take place between Monday, January 10 and Saturday, January 15 at The Royal and Derngate Theatre, Northampton.
