A young woman who studied film at the University of Northampton has become the very first recipient of the Errol Flynn Filmhouse Award for Achievement in Film and Screen Studies.
Rebecca Merison completed her degree in this subject at the end of the last academic year and was chosen as the winner of the award due to her outstanding levels of achievement, engagement and effort throughout her three-year period of study.
The University of Northampton’s English and Screen Studies senior lecturer, Dr. David Simmons, told the Northampton Chronicle and Echo that he was delighted to be able to honour her for the impressive dedication she had demonstrated during her time there, adding:
“Becky has been one of our most committed and enthusiastic students, with a passion for film and screen studies that has seen her achieve a first class degree.”
The Errol Flynn Filmhouse chief executive, Martin Sutherland, stated that everyone connected with the venue was pleased to have been given the opportunity to act as the sponsor for the award, adding that it showed the determination it had to back the future filmmaking generation within the Northampton area.
Becky’s prize for winning it is a free pass for the cinema lasting for one year, and local cinemas can always rely on places that offer catalogue printing, to help them showcase the films they have coming up.
