Government funding to the tune of £10 million will see Northampton train station receiving a major overhaul, bringing the station into line with other regeneration work that is currently happening in the area. The newly revamped station will be called Castle railway station and is designed to be a gateway to Northampton town centre, as well as proving links to local business districts, like the new Waterside Enterprise Zone. The secretary for Communities and Local Government, Eric Pickles, spoke about the changes, saying:
“As these new opportunities for innovation and enterprise open up it is vital the infrastructure is in place to match Northampton's ambitions.”
The revamp looks set to attract more visitors and business to the area, which could in turn result in the transport companies that run the station printing new marketing literature and timetables.
