The New Wave band, The Undertones, is currently on tour and due to arrive for a gig in Northampton at the end of August.
It was founded in 1975 in Derry, Northern Ireland, by five close friends, all keen to play rock and roll. They achieved this by a combination of listening to records, reading editions of NME, tuning into John Peel's BBC Radio One show and practicing.
Ultimately, leading in September 1978 to the Undertones' decision to record their initial EP 'Teenage Kicks' on the label Good Vibrations. DJ John Peel, who received a copy, played the track, uncharacteristically, twice on his show.
They later signed a deal with Sire and 'That Autumn', their debut LP, was released in April 1879, then acted as the Clash's US support. But the band eventually split up in the summer of 1983.
The Undertones today, playing live, deliver a selection of classic songs taken, arguably, from several of the most influential Punk and New Wave albums ever made. These include guitar pop hits such as 'Get Over You', 'Jimmy, Jimmy', 'My Perfect Cousin' and not forgetting 'Teenage Kicks'.
