The Future High Streets Fund is all about the regeneration of town centres. A total of £675 million has been allocated to the pot of money. Towns like Northampton will make bids to take advantage of the resources. Print shops can get a welcome boost from the revitalisation of local economies. Modernised towns may create the experiences that residents and visitors want.
Northampton’s Business Improvement District (BID) and Northampton Borough Council have come together to try to secure some of the revenue. A successful pitch might enable the town to address the economic challenges it faces. Rob Purdie, the chair at Northampton BID, told the Northampton Chronicle & Echo:
“There's an emphasis these days to make town centres more mixed-used and 'experiential', and make the community part of it rather than it be strictly about shopping.”
Purdie has many years of experience when it comes to marketing strategy. He would like former retail units to be converted into workspace. In addition, he hopes that Northampton can benefit from potential enhancements to its transport infrastructure.
