One of punk's founding groups, The UK Subs, are due to play a gig in Northampton early in December.
The band was founded in 1976 by Charlie Harper who restyled them from a previous R&B outfit called The Marauders after being inspired by The Damned.
There were several initial line-ups before October 1977 when guitarist Nicky Garratt joined. The Harper/Garratt song writing partnership ultimately proved successful, with numerous gigs across London seeing a cult following emerge.
Their first single 'C.I.D.' was released in September 1978 on City Records. It reached No. 1 in the Indie Charts the following year, with the band subsequently signing to Gem Records.
The UK Subs had seven UK top 30 singles hits in a row and two top 10 albums ('Crash Course' and 'Brand New Age') between 1979 and 1981. They are still touring worldwide, including the US and Europe, on a regular basis.
The band won 'The Punk World Cup' in 2010, and in 2016 released their most recent album 'Zero'. The present line up consists of guitarist Steve Straughan, bassist Alvin Gibbs, and drummer Jamie Oliver.
