The singer-songwriter Al Stewart and The Empty Pockets are on tour and due to play a gig in Northampton in mid-October.
This Glasgow-born artist began playing guitar in a number of bands, but once he heard Bob Dylan, he became determined to try his hand at writing lyrics. His initial release was the 1967 album “Bedsitter Images”, which became a commercial success.
In total, he has produced almost 20 records, largely focused on introspection with meaningful lyrics. These have featured such notable contributors as Jimmy Page and Richard Thompson. Indeed, his 70's albums “Year Of The Cat” and “Time Passages” both went on to go platinum
Al has had a number of singles in the top 20, notably ‘Song On The Radio’ and ‘On The Border’. Although his last album release was “Sparks of Ancient Light” in 2008, he still nevertheless tours today to the delight of his loyal fan base.
The band is due to be accompanied on stage by Marc Macisso on saxophone. They will be playing hits such as ‘Nostradamus’ together with a selection of tracks taken from his extensive catalogue.
