The iconic station, which is set for demolition in the near future, has had a number of tributes paid to it – including a song – but the painstaking model built by an NHS employee called Rob from Daventry is surely the most unusual.
The 29-year-old, who chose not to reveal his surname, told the Northampton Chronicle and Echo that he had devoted three months to researching the brutalist architectural design of the building, before spending a further two weeks recreating it. He explained:
“I’m a big fan of brutalist architecture and I just thought it was being demolished, so I had better make sure I get as many photos of this as possible now before it comes down.”
He added that constructing buildings using the famous plastic blocks was something he had enjoyed for years as a hobby, and that it provided a vital release from the stresses of his job.
When people create unique pieces such as this, they have the option of using postcard printing in Northampton and similar areas if they want to produce permanent souvenirs of them.
The bus station represents the third big piece that Rob has recreated, having previously built Lego versions of Preston Bus Station and the Twin Towers.
