The official launch of the state-of-the-art campus was held February 7th, and gave local schoolchildren the opportunity to tour the building and also to see what courses will be on offer.
Northampton College principal, Pat Brennan-Barrett said during the opening event:
“This is the start of a new chapter for young people in Daventry. By investing in state-of-the-art technology and providing a facility fit for 21st century learning we can ensure we are giving our young people everything they need to succeed.”
Among the facilities available are motor vehicle workshops for industry standard engineering, beauty therapy and hairdressing salons, Mac and ICT suites, designated learning space for child and healthcare studies, and provision for students with disabilities or learning difficulties.
A Digital Academy will give students access to coding and software courses, web development, social media and games design. Skills which could help if they choose to follow a career in graphic design, for example.
Daventry District Council leader, Chris Millar, and South East Midlands Local Enterprises Partnership chief executive, Stephen Catchpole, both expressed their delight that the co-funded project was now a reality, and that the young people of Daventry had access to the opportunities that the new campus will afford them.
