The Oliver Adams bakery was closed back in May 2017. Approximately 150 members of staff received their cards as a result. However, the old building is now going to be pulled down. The aspiration is that fresh industrial units will create employment on the site. New firms can gain from Logo Design in Northampton.
A statement which accompanies the official plan was reported in the Northampton Chronicle and Echo:
“The existing buildings are out-dated, of poor quality and in urgent need of enhancement and modernisation. While conversion has been considered, this approach would seriously limit the use of the site and the viability of its continued use.”
Evidently, the Oliver Adams venture had little choice but to close. Creditors were reportedly about £1.7 million out of pocket. Hence the directors shut up shop, even though the company behind the bakery had been present in the local community for several decades. The bakery had been a feature of Gladstone Road since the middle of the 1970s. The operation included a department devoted to cash and carry, while hotels benefited from its supplies.
