The bus station was knocked down during 2015, having been a source of local criticism for years, and proposals for the vacant site include the construction of a cinema, restaurants, shops and homes.
Both of the proposals for this site have been made available for viewing by residents of Northampton in the town’s Guildhall. Two different property developers are in competition to win approval for their plans, but each of the proposals would see a mix of housing, leisure and retail amenities constructed on the site.
The first proposal centres on a leisure complex containing facilities for trampolining, family entertainment, and a multiplex cinema, but would also see over 700 flats built – including ones for retired people and students. The second would incorporate a luxury hotel, boutique cinema, cafes, restaurants and housing, as well as a replacement transport hub.
Northampton Borough Council’s Mary Markham told ITV News:
“There is an improved leisure offer hotel, residential, retail and restaurants are all queuing to want to come to this development which is really good.”
The council will discuss final recommendations during September and the developers can turn to places that provide Brochures if they want to showcase their ideas.
