Last year saw 8,720 arrests for drink driving in Northamptonshire alone, with a further 47 arrests for driving while on drugs from March to December.
The Safer Roads Team are set to carry out numerous operations throughout the UK this month, which includes drug and breath wipe tests, and morning-after checks, in a bid to combat the problem.
The Safer Roads Team's Police Constable Chris Gray said:
“Drink and drug use are major causes of road traffic collisions. The consequences of getting behind the wheel when impaired can be fatal, so we are urging people to make the right choices this summer and never drive when they’ve had a drink.”
The team will be hopeful that local printing services will be taking a charitable approach to the campaign when providing the likes of promotional items, document scanning, and other printing needs.
While the number of casualties of drink driving has decreased significantly in recent times, 2014 saw 240 fatalities, which accounted for 14% of all deaths on the road, as well as 1,070 major injuries. A sum of 8,210 victims were injured in incidents involving drink driving.
