Argos Announces Plans to Sell Advertising Space in Catalogues, in Stores and Online
UK retail giant Argos recently announced Plans to open up a new revenue stream in its business model by selling advertising space in its stores, on its website and in its Catalogues.
Argos has made the decision to offer advertising space to their partners, giving them what it calls ““a really compelling opportunity to communicate with UK consumers.” The advertising spaces are yet to be confirmed but these could include space on at-till communications, using pos printing, or on Posters and Flyers. The advertising spaces will also be available in catalogues and online.
Argos has, over the last few years, branched out into being one of the UK’s leading multi-channel retailers, using online selling to supplement the more traditional approach which consisted of collection in shops after placing an order that had been selected from their range of products. The products are on display in each shop in laminated catalogues, created using traditional full-colour catalogue printing.
Northampton and the surrounding region are home to seven Argos stores, four of which are flagship ‘Argos Extra’ stores. As part of the new plans, these stores would feature advertising from Argos’s partners. This new move could be seen to set a precedent for other retailers who may follow suit and decide to offer their partners advertising space in exchange for payment, giving them a chance to boost their income in what looks set to continue to be a challenging economic climate.
