Electric bike scheme in Leeds will launch during autumn
A new project that will see over 650 electric bikes made available for rental use will be launching in Leeds later in the year, with early autumn now the planned start date.
West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) has given the go ahead, and now docking stations for the bikes are to be set up. These are due to be fitted both at locations in the heart of Leeds and within its inner suburbs. The aim of making electric bikes more easily available is to reduce the amount of cars on the roads of the city.
Beryl Bikes is the company that has been selected to manage the scheme, having handled similar successful ones in Greater Manchester, Bournemouth and Norwich. The firm was chosen after a bidding process.
According to BBC News, Helen Hayden from the council stated at a recent meeting of the WYCA that:
Flyer printing from outlets in Leeds is one way that new schemes like this one can be advertised quickly and easily throughout the city.
It is scheduled to get underway during September, with Shaftesbury Junction and Meanwood among the first places to get docking stations.

“We’ve got a lot of confidence in the operator and I’m really pleased we’re having docking stations. It won’t be like when you go to London and bikes are strewn here, there and everywhere.”
