This development is called the Leeds Station Gateway scheme, and it involves a number of improvements to the station entrance. There will be more options for bicycle storage, a new rank for taxis and streets that are safer for pedestrians. Other new facilities will include two lifts, electric bike charging points and exterior seating areas.
Work on constructing the revamped main entrance began four years ago, at a cost of over £46 million. It was meant to be finished last autumn but took a year longer than expected. The hold-up is because of unexpected engineering difficulties, such as the need for maintenance at Mill Goit.

According to BBC News, a Leeds City Council spokesperson stated:
“The scheme will provide a more attractive, accessible and welcoming gateway to the city, with improved public spaces and better connections between the station and the wider city centre.”
A number of existing facilities at the station had to be removed. They include 13 beams made of heavy iron, the rotunda steps and the cycle hub.
