Zany Zebras receive sponsorship in Southampton

Southampton City Council and a local shopping centre have backed a scheme that will lead to a trail of zebra sculptures being placed around the city in 2016.

Marwell Wildlife is behind the Zany Zebras project. The local authority seems to have been inspired to sponsor the sculptures by the perceived success of a campaign called Go! Rhinos, which was hosted by the city back in 2013.

The Daily Echo has chosen to support Zany Zebras, as it is thought that Go! Rhinos attracted a quarter of a million visitors to the city.

The Marwell manager responsible for making Zany Zebras a success, Kirstie Mathieson, has expressed the hope that even more visitors can be welcomed to Southampton this time. She could use postcard printing in Southampton (Hedge End) to try to achieve her goal.

Mathieson has said:

“The more sponsors we have on board the more sculptures there will be and the greater the impact the trail will have on the local economy. We are thrilled that Southampton City Council has recognised the impact that this project will have on the city.”

Schools will be given the opportunity to become involved. They will have the chance to decorate a creature each.

The zebras will stay in Southampton for over two months. Then an auction of the sculptures will take place, with the money raised going to support conservation efforts in Kenya.
