World cricket event coming to Southampton

Southampton is set to host a major international cricket match.

A recent announcement from the International Cricket Council (ICC) officially nominated Southampton as the city that will host the World Test Championship final, which is taking place between New Zealand and India this year.

Cricket fans in limited numbers from Hedge End, West End and other parts of Southampton are expected to be able to attend the event if lockdown continues to ease in the UK. Promoters of both minor and major sporting events can sometimes use poster printing to advertise upcoming games and matches.

Originally, the final was intended to take place at Lord's in London’s St John’s Wood, but the Ageas Bowl was chosen for safety reasons. The Ageas Bowl, also known as the Hampshire Bowl and Rose Bowl, is located on Botley Road in Southampton’s West End, and the game is set to be played within a bio-secure bubble.

According to Business Standard, the ICC commented:

“Selecting the Hampshire Bowl, the ICC drew on ECB's experience of delivering a full summer of bio-safe international cricket in 2020. The venue provides world-class playing and training facilities, giving both teams the best possible environment in which to prepare.”

The World Test Championship final between New Zealand and India will take place from June 18 to June 22, 2021.
