Southampton school to welcome taxi driver poet

A school in Hedge End, Southampton will showcase light-hearted entertainment from a taxi driver turned poet.

In an evening show called “the Life and Loves of a Taxi Driver”, the Little Box Office at the Wildern School invites attendees to enjoy the comic delivery of poet James Haddow.

For over 16 years, Haddow wrote and recited his verses involving love and life to passengers while working as a taxi driver on rural roads around the East Midlands counties of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. However, in 2013 a seizure forced the impromptu poet to retire from his driving profession and he resettled down on the UK’s south coast. Haddon now spends his days writing and reciting his personal poetry while reliving his many encounters and journeys for audiences around the country.

The reading is part of the Wordplay Festival 2020, which has adapted to the coronavirus crisis by rescheduling dates where possible and staging some events virtually. Organisers of festivals can use poster printing services to make ticket holders and members of the public aware of any changes to scheduled programming.

Originally planned for March, the one-night poetry show will now take place on Thursday, August 20 at the Wildern School on Wildern Lane in Hedge End, Southampton. Tickets for the event are priced at £5 each and the show starts at 7pm.
