Southampton cultural festival ran by community

An exhibition which was hosted by the Southampton Chamber of Arts has been taken over by the local community.

In 2015, the Heart of Heritage event was put together by the Southampton Chamber of Arts. This year, the occasion has been organised by representatives of the community. In 2017, Flyers from Southampton Hedge End might be used to attract the public to the festival.

The aim of the celebration is to promote the diverse artistic culture of the city. However, the event also provides local artists with an opportunity to showcase their work. In addition, the profile of Southampton is given a boost.

There is also an emphasis on education. Pupils from Southampton have been encouraged to participate in competitions and workshops. This year, they were set the task of designing a window to be made out of stained glass. The idea was that a theme relevant to Southampton should be selected.

An artist who is skilled in working with stained glass has pledged to use the design of the winner of the contest. Isaac Glasgow has made the commitment to put in a special window at a school named after St Denys. The reception area of the institution will be transformed by the addition of the panel in question.

Theatrical productions have been given a chance to have an impact. Inspiration for the performances has come from poetry and art. Music from carnival bands has also been encouraged.
