[/caption]The city of Southampton lies on the south coast of England and is one of the busiest ports, not just in the UK, but in the whole of Europe.
Southampton is perhaps best known in world history as the port from where the Titanic sailed in 1912, on its maiden voyage to New York. The ‘unsinkable’ ship never made its destination, sinking five days into its voyage. Most of the Titanic’s crew lived in Southampton, and it has been reported that as many as 500 Southampton households lost someone in the tragedy.
Over the years the Titanic has been the subject of many different Posters and postcard printing.
Southampton was also a target for the Luftwaffe during the war, for two main reasons. Firstly, the port handled military cargo for the Allies in their battle against the German forces, and secondly, the Spitfire was built in Southampton. The Spitfire factory was bombed, and destroyed, in 1940 – along with many of the surrounding residential homes.
Today Southampton is still a thriving port, and a city of culture. Its Mayflower Theatre keeps Print companies in Southampton busy with West End productions of shows such as The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Les Miserables. The Mayflower Theatre is the largest in the city, holding 2,300 people.
Southampton Football Club enjoyed one of the longest stays in topflight football (longer than Manchester United and Chelsea) until it ended a few years ago in 2005, and they were relegated from the Premiership. The club followed that relegation up by dropping another division a few years later.Get a Free Quote for Posters Get a Free Quote for Print
