The initiative will be called Potters Court and over 80 homes shall be created at a cost of over £20 million. Booklet printing from Southampton Hedge End could be used to showcase the flats when they are ready for use.
Councillor Warwick Payne, who has responsibility for adult care at SCC, told the Daily Echo:
“I am pleased that we are now clear to break ground on the Potters Court scheme for Southampton residents who may need support in their home but want also to remain independent.”
The homes in question will be located in Maybush on Wimpson Lane. The eligible residents will be able to make use of a guest suite and a communal lounge. In order to receive eligible status, a resident will have to be assessed.
However, a few of the homes will be accessible to other people with general requirements. The construction of both types of housing provision is due for completion during the course of 2019.
The central idea behind Extra Care Housing is that residents can benefit from flexible arrangements. SCC wants individuals to enjoy their freedom and it hopes that elderly people can get care as and when they need it. Social activities in the housing development will be optional as everyone will be able to pursue personal schedules.
