Hedge End hails carnivals return

A local carnival in Hedge End, Southampton is set to take place this summer after setbacks during the pandemic.

Renowned for its colourful processions and local community spirit, the Hedge End Carnival is making a welcome return to the Southampton area this year. The first ever edition of the popular event was held in 1921 and spawned a time-honoured tradition. Organisers and those participating in the carnival had been looking forwards to celebrating the centenary of the event, but the COVID-19 restriction delayed it.

Those hosting local outdoor events like fairs, festivals, and carnivals to mark important occasions often look to professional banner printing services to create impressive large-scale signage that commands the attention of the community.

Now, in 2022, Hedge End is ready to belatedly celebrate 100 years of the carnival that unites those living and working in the area while raising funds for good causes in Southampton, including local organisations, schools, and groups.

The event is an important part of life in Hedge End with many local firms donating services and goods on the day. This year, the event is focused on the environment and while driving is allowed in the procession, the organisers are urging people to march the carnival route on foot.

The Hedge End Carnival will begin at Hedge End Village Hall with a band night taking place at Davey Jones' Locker on Friday, July 1.
