Hampshire village hosts celebratory occasion

The village of South Wonston recently held an event to showcase its collective appreciation of the local community.

One of the organisers of this annual celebration, Clare Knock, said that next year could be an even bigger occasion than 2015’s. To help make it so, perhaps printing services in Southampton and Hedge End could be used to get the word out. Mrs Knock also told the Southern Daily Echo:

"It all started about five years ago. We stepped up to do it and we’ve been forced into doing it every year since! It was first run by the Parish Council but it then broke away into volunteers."

This summer, there were approximately 40 stalls on the site. As a result, those attending the community festival had plenty to choose from, including homemade fudge, Books, plants and bric-a-brac.

Numerous activities also took place on the day, such as archery and abseiling. This was also the first year that a rock-climbing frame has come into play at South Wonston. An unusual activity based on the theme of gladiators also used inflatable items to generate amusement.

Additional entertainment was delivered by a group of Morris dancers. In the evening, a bar and a barbecue were put on to encourage people to continue their celebrations. Music was provided for the villagers by a pair of bands, Sweet Music and The Mini Band.
