Hampshire may get thousands of new jobs
An enterprise zone that has been proposed by the local enterprise partnership in the vicinity of Southampton Airport could involve the creation of 6,000 jobs.
The Solent Local Enterprise Partnership (SLEP) has come up with a scheme to attract investment to the area. It is now seeking help from central government to make its vision a reality. If the project succeeds, demand for marketing services from Southampton Hedge End could increase. Gary Jeffries, the chairperson of SLEP, has said:
The local authorities in the area have expressed their support for the policy. Representatives of Southampton and Eastleigh have united behind proposals which they believe would be of mutual benefit. The possibility of fresh job creation has helped to bring people together.
The MP of Eastleigh, Mims Davies, has given her backing to the initiative. Mrs. Davies has agreed with Mr. Jeffries that exploiting transport infrastructure must be a central part of the way forward. It has been reported that a decision on whether or not the plan goes ahead will be made prior to the start of 2016.
