German company launches English language cruise brochure

A German-based cruise ship tour operator has recently started marketing to UK customers following the launch of its first English language brochure.

Hapag-Lloyd is the name of the German cruise company that aims to expand into the UK. The company is owned by travel giants Tui AG.

The head of product management at Hapag-Lloyd, Julian Pfitzner, spoke about what UK customers could expect on board one of the company’s cruises. Pfitzner said:

“Our passengers enjoy an atmosphere that is more cosmopolitan.”

Pfitzner also stated that the on-board entertainment programme was not focused upon one particular language, so that customers from any country can enjoy it. The aim of this new marketing drive in the UK is to grow the number of English-speaking customers on board Hapag-Lloyg cruises. The company hopes this new brochure will mean that the percentage of these customers on board will grow to 15 per cent of total passengers.

Hapag-Lloyd's choice of promotional material is in line with the way the rest of the industry promotes its cruises. Brochures, particularly ones produced using full colour printing, are a tried-and-tested way of promoting holidays. Many tour operators advertise their cruises by producing Brochures printed by local brochure printers.

Southampton has been a popular start point for many cruises setting sail from England for years. For the time being, the planned first trip for Hapag-Lloyd's UK customers sails from Hamburg to Lisbon next year. Brochures will be available shortly from selected travel agents.
