Building firm in Southampton takes trip to the past

Elliotts, a provider of building materials, has recently celebrated its origins in Southampton.

The company was founded back in the 1840s and to mark its heritage, the firm transported goods from Southampton’s Millbank Wharf to RH Hammond via a horse drawn cart. Local enterprises can showcase their qualities by using marketing services from Southampton Hedge End.

Elliotts’ managing director, Tom Elliott, told the Daily Echo:
“We are proud of our heritage but, at the same time, we always make sure Elliotts is ahead of the game in supplying the latest and best products to our customers. Our range of building supplies is outstanding and we are constantly looking for new innovations for the business.”

The chairperson of Elliotts is Stuart Mason-Elliott and he confirmed that the organisation had changed a lot since 1842. It was a small concern when Thomas Elliott launched the enterprise. Elliotts currently employs almost 300 personnel.

Although the headquarters of Elliotts remains the same, the outfit now has several branches. Not all of these sites are situated within the boundaries of Southampton.

During the Victorian era, the use of horses for transporting goods was not unusual. These days, Elliotts possesses over 50 modern delivery vehicles. This enables the firm to do business across southern England. Billy Target is one of the lorry drivers who makes the operation possible and he enjoyed the celebration of the history of the business.
