Work commences on multi-million pound Chesterfield sports facility

A project to create a new sports centre in Chesterfield is now underway, with a ceremony at the Queen’s Park Annex site held on 10th September.

The new £9.3 million enhancement to the Queen’s Park Sports Centre is being carried out using money from a recent grant of £2 million from Sport England, in addition to £4.8 million in funding from the Council and £2.5 million from Chesterfield College through a dual usage agreement.

According to Councillor Amanda Serjeant, the project has involved a lot of work and planning beforehand, as well as consultations with the public to get to a point where it was possible for work to begin. She explained that the centre offers a modern and cost-effective centre for the people of Chesterfield to make the most of.

Morgan Sindall is the construction and infrastructure company managing the contract, and it is said to have extensive experience. The firm’s area director explains that it is using as much of the local workforce as possible, so that Chesterfield benefits during both the construction stage and following completion.

It is said that having Sport England on board really puts Chesterfield on the map for sports facilities, bringing in more outsiders. Brochure printing in Chesterfield is another way to promote the new centre both locally and further afield.
