Students in Chesterfield to contest cookery award

Three students who all attend Chesterfield College are set to compete for a prestige cookery award, having made it to the final of the competition last month.

Callum Fitzpatrick, Sophia Johnson and Jake Parkin, all aged 18, had to produce a two-course dinner for the judging panel at this year’s Young Chef of the Year awards. This competition Forms part of the wider Chesterfield Food and Drink Awards that are held every year in the town and is designed to honour the Level 2 cooking student at the college who shows the most potential.

Speaking to the Derbyshire Times, Jake stated that he has been interested in cookery since he was little, after his grandmother sparked the interest. Sophia told the reporter that she was thrilled with how the cook-off had gone and to be into the final, while Callum added that he had looked into menu ideas online to prepare for it.

Local colleges often make use of Stationery printers for the educational materials that they need. The event was sponsored by Owen Taylor & Sons, and Richard Taylor from the firm said:

“It was a very good effort from all three students today. The food was delivered with acceptable presentation, but one shone and I look forward to seeing that person on the awards night.”

This will take place during October.
