Pole vault youngsters from Chesterfield win medals

Those pole vaulters representing Chesterfield and District Athletics Club at the recent Scottish Athletics Age Group Championships enjoyed great success, as they claimed three medals at the event.

The competition took place at Glasgow’s Emirates Arena and Rebecca Conway, Joe Houghton, Lauren Hill and Alistair McInulty took on Scottish athletes at the event.

McInulty got things off to a positive start as he won the men’s under-20s competition, securing a personal best 4.1m vault alongside his gold medal, before Conway followed this up with gold in the women’s under-17s event, vaulting 2.6m in height.

There was to be a third medal triumph for the Chesterfield club as Hill came in second in the girls under-15s category, with a day’s best vault of 2.5m.

Although Joe Houghton did not join his teammates in enjoying gold or silver medal success, his sixth placed finish within the boys under-15s section did see him vault a height beyond 2m, which represents an improvement of 20 centimetres on his previous best score.

Chesterfield and District Athletics Club will be able to make use of poster printing in Chesterfield (Brampton) if they want to advertise the successful performance of their young athletes at this event in the area.

This club was launched in 1978 to take advantage of increased athletics interest in Chesterfield, and has trained champions at national, northern and county levels since then.
