These proposals will see the existing Holywell Hotel in the town given a million-pound upgrade to turn it into a boutique destination. Property development firm Voeburg has acquired the hotel, which is situated within the town centre, right alongside the Holywell Cross roundabout known to locals as ‘the doughnut’.
The building holds Grade II listed status, and the project to upgrade the interiors is expected to cost over £1 million. It will be turned into nine flats, eight of which have one or two bedrooms, and people will be able to book these for stays of short periods.

Emily Smith from Voeburg told Chesterfield News that the company was thrilled to have secured planning permission, adding:
“We’re working through some of the final building control requirements, but are expecting to start the renovation imminently. We’re looking forward to enhancing the character of the Grade II listed building while bringing it into a new use.”
