The un-missable bright red Coca Cola truck stopped off at the Lockoford Lane Tesco Extra at the start of the Christmas period, and Chesterfield locals flocked to the truck to take photographs and receive a free sample of Coca Cola. The truck is visiting 60 locations over the Christmas period as part of a unique marketing exercise by the brand. Experiential advertising like this is becoming more widespread, whereas traditionally, many brands tend to stick to established methods of advertising such as television advertisement slots, or press adverts that have been placed in national magazines using full colour printing.
Chesterfield was one of the first stops on the Coca Cola truck tour. The Marketing Director for Coca Cola Great Britain, Zoe Howorth, spoke about the trip, saying:
“We are absolutely delighted to visit Chesterfield as part of the 'Holidays Are Coming...' truck tour. This is the first time we have been to the town. We are really pleased to have received such a warm welcome from the local community and are happy to be spreading some festive cheer to the people of Chesterfield."
The Coca Cola Christmas advertisement has become, for many people, a sign that the festive period has begun as it tends to air each year around the end of November or start of December. More information about the Christmas truck tour can be found on the Coca Cola website.
