The site for this Co-op store is on Ashgate Road, with the firm set to take over a building that used to be home to a pub. Formerly the Crispin Inn, this building has lain vacant since the venue closed its doors, but it will now be given a new lease of life.
However, extensive work to repair and upgrade it will be needed first, as it is in poor condition at the moment. A spokesperson for the Co-op told a reporter from the Derbyshire Times that it will include a cash machine and a bakery in-store.
According to the spokesperson, it also promises to stock products that have been sourced locally and to provide healthy, fresh meal options. He then went on to state that it will create jobs for around 25 local people, adding:
“The new store will also bring a funding boost for community groups through the Co-op’s membership scheme. Since the scheme’s launch in September 2016, nearby stores have supported 30 groups in Derbyshire and distributed £65,000 through its local community fund.”
