Tony Dent originally hailed from Sheffield but now runs the Chesterfield vehicle leasing company B&B Vehicle Contracts, while Paul Gosney is a manager for City Taxis in the town. The pair are friends who bonded over their enthusiasm for dogs and now they are set to enter the Virtual London Marathon with the aim of fundraising for the Support Dogs charity.
This is a 26.2-mile event, and neither of them has ever taken part in a marathon before now. The friends and families of people entering events of this kind often support them using banner printing provided by local shops.
Speaking to Chesterfield News, Dent stated that the work carried out by the charity was tremendously important. His leasing firm has declared it the chosen charity of 2021.
He went on to add:
“I was recently watching one of their videos about a young girl whose life was turned round by her assistance dog, and every time I watch it, I cry! It’s heart-breaking and heart-warming at the same time.”
The two men are currently putting in gymnasium sessions in preparation for the marathon, which takes place on October 3.
