Turkish rock band to perform at upcoming Camden gig
The ska and punk rockers Athena are due to play at a venue in Camden towards the end of January.
Founded in 1987 in Istanbul by two brothers Hakan and Gokhan Ozoguz, they quickly rose to become one of the country's top-selling rock groups. They were noted by critics in particular for their sound instrumentation and charismatic frontmen.
In the wake of a first album flop, the band changed from metal to a combination of ska and punk. Their follow-up LP 'Hooligan' came out in 1998 and had a warm reception. Indeed, the title track was chosen as an anthem by local football fans.
Athena's innovative use of traditional folk music and close links with sport has led to the delivery of a string of high-quality songs. Since 1998, they have participated in many festivals abroad, further enhancing their international reputation.
The band has released a total of eight studio LPs, one soundtrack album and three EPs, as well as a host of hit singles. In May 2004, they were Turkey's representatives at the Eurovision Song Contest, singing 'For Real', in which they came fourth.
Tickets cost £58.20 inclusive of a transaction fee. Poster printing can be a cost-effective option when it comes to the promotion of a concert or musical event.
Athena's gig has a starting time of 7.00 pm on Saturday, 18 January at The Electric Ballroom, Camden.
